Cell Phone vs. Bible

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?....

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we turned back to get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to get messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to the kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?

This is something to make you go hmmm...where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing...
Unlike our cell phone , we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

Has Spring Sprung ?

" Longing For Spring "

Once a day and sometimes more,
I look out my daydream door,
to see if Spring is out there yet,
I'm really anxious, but mustn't fret.

I see the snow is melting down,
and lots of mud and slush around,
I know the grass will surely sprout,
and birds and flowers will come out.

But why, oh why does it take so long?
I'm sure the calendar can't be wrong,
sunshine fills my heart with cheer,
I wish that Spring were really here.

Soon Mother Nature will sound the alarm,
wake up! get dressed turn on your charm,
Winter's gloom has gone it's way,
It's Spring..It's Spring..Oh Happy Day !

More Pittsburgh Firsts

First Mr. Yuk Sticker - 1971
Mr.Yuk was created at the Poison Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh after research indicated that the skull and crossbones previously used to identify poisons had little meaning to children who equate the symbol with pirates and adventure.

First Night World Series Game - 1971
Game 4 of the 1971 World Series was the first night game in World Series history, a series that Pittsburgh went on to win, 4 games to 3.

First Pull - Tab on Cans - 1962
The pull tab was developed by Alcoa and was first used by Iron City Brewery in 1962.
For many years, pull - tabs were only used in this area.

Thought for Today
After thousands of years, we have advanced to the point where we bolt our doors and windows and turn on burglar alarms, while the jungle natives sleep in open - door huts....

Thirty - One Years and Counting.....

Last Wednesday, March 14th, Jack and I celebrated our 31st Wedding Anniversary... Where has the time gone?

It was 1974. After much persistence, a mutual friend set us up on a blind date. The evening went fine but neither one of us heard any bells or whistles, so we went our separate ways never expecting to hear from each other again. A few months later this friend's mom asked me to send that nice guy a Christmas card....I said " no ".
But finally I gave in and sent it, but to the wrong zipcode...somehow.. he got the card. Being polite, he sent me a card in return. Fine .. now that's taken care of, and on with my life, right? February came... and the friend's Mom tells me that that nice guy is coming to Pittsburgh for some work related classes, and why don't I ask him to dinner?....I said " no ".

But after some persuading, I agreed. And the rest is history!

Jack asked me to marry him just a few months later, but it was almost a year and a half before we finally tied the knot! We both had been married before, and Jack would not only be getting a wife, but a family. I had two little boys from my first marriage. Two years passed, and in 1978, our daughter Sarah was born. Yes, we've had some rocky times, but we both agree that it's the best decision we ever made!

" May You Always Be Blessed "

May you always be blessed....
With walls for the wind,
A roof for the rain,
A warm cup of tea by the fire.
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all that your heart might desire.....Old Gaelic Blessing

This is my wish for all of you, no matter what nationality you may be.

D-I-Y $ 10.00 Macro Photo Studio

Last week, I came across a blog for photography that gave the directions for a do - it - yourself macro photo studio to take shots of small objects without any background. I thought this would be great for pictures of items that someone would sell on their website or E-bay. So I was curious enough to try to make one. I had the cardboard box and some tracing paper, so it cost me .. are you ready.. a whopping 48 cents ( for a sheet of black and white posterboard ) to make it! I don't know where the $10.00 comes in ???

I have an inexpensive digital camera and I need to work on the lighting effects, But it was fun to try!

Here are some photos that I took:

Who inspires you to persevere?

Definition : to persist in anything; to maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, continue steadfastly.

I recently heard someone say that we have become a culture of quitters. That we give up at the first roadblock. Partner not making you happy?...get a divorce. Don't like your job?...quit,there's always unemployment.

Life is a grindstone that can either wear on us or... polish us. We can take adverse circumstances and use them as stepping stones to life's goals.

I read an article about Bob Wieland over at ngpfocus.wordpress.com/ He finished last in the 1986 New York City Marathon. Yes, he finished last. So why was I so impressed by Bob? Because Bob ran with his arms. He lost both his legs in the Vietnam war. Bob is no quitter, that's for sure. He has endured in the face of adversity.

Christ endured intense opposition all his life. He is the one that will be waiting for us at the finish line. Look to Him...He is faithful ...He will never disappoint you.

~He that endures to the end shall be saved ~ Matthew 10:22

Cozy Corners

Here are some "cozy corners" of our home.
I love these pictures of old hats.

This is the dining room, where I keep all of my teapots and teacups I collect.

Here is the corner of the Master bedroom.

This is a little sitting area in the upstairs hallway. Everyday
when when my hubby comes home, something has moved from one place to another!
Hope you all have a great day!

Punxsutawney Phil - Shame on you!

On Feb. 2nd, you predicted an early spring instead of six more weeks of winter.Well Hello, here we are, it's March 7th and the wind is blowing....and the snow is piling up....I think it's time to find a new groundhog....maybe "Punxsutawney Priscilla". What do you think?

Peaches and Cream

Today, while I was watching the cooking show on our local Public Television channel, I got a recipe that sounds like the ideal "comfort food ". . . And it's so easy to make!

1 bag of frozen peaches
1 white cake mix
1/2 cup of raisins
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter,melted

Layer items in the order given in a 13 X 9 glass cake pan. Pour melted butter over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or cool whip.

Last week, my 6 yr. old grandson, Alex, was trying to teach his Pappy Jack how to play chess.
Pappy wasn't very interested in learning the game, so when he made a wrong move, Alex told him in a very serious tone, " Now, we've talked about this before ".

Hope you all have a very relaxing Sunday!!!

" A Good Friend "

" The Friend who Just Stands By "

When trouble comes your soul to try,
You love the friend that just "stands by."
Perhaps there's nothing she can do-
The thing is strictly up to you.

For there are troubles all your own,
And paths the soul must tread alone,
Times when love can't smooth the road,
Nor friendship lift the heavy load.

But just to know you have a friend,
Who will stand by until the end,
Whose sympathy through all endures,
Whose warm handclasp is always yours-

It helps some ways to pull you through,
Although there's nothing she can do,
And so with fervent heart you cry,
" God bless the friend who just "stands by "
B.Y. Williams
I have been blessed to find such a friend . . . her name is "Rosie".
