I need your help........

This week I have two plants that are blooming in my flowerbed.....
and I have no idea what they are!

This first one was behind a tall plant and I didn't discover it until it bloomed. I probably would have thought it was a weed and pulled it out by now. (maybe it's a bloomin' weed?)

This second plant has scalloped leaves and smells like lemon when touched.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Here's what's bloomin' this week:
This is the Mimosa tree, with huge fern-like leaves that sway in the breeze...

This year it's just covered with blooms (pictured above)..aren't they unique!

This flower is called "spotted bellflower" I bought this perennial last year, and I love the two inch lavender bells.

I have a large container of Zinnias on the patio. They are no work at all and continually bloom all summer...

Rain, rain go away..........my poor "bloomers” are lying on the ground because it’s been raining everyday!

Day lilies
in greek means "beautiful for a day" because each bloom only lasts for one day. They are really starting to fill out.

Lamium, or more commonly called "dead nettle" is one of my favorites because it stays low to the ground. It's no more than about 6 inches high with variegated green and silver leaves.

Coleus have such colorful foliage in shades of green, pink and reds. But the one thing they don't like is too much water!

What a colorful spring....

Does anybody have any idea what this shrub is?
It only gets about 2 feet tall and and blooms in late April or early May. My grandmother had the original bush in her yard for many years and called it a " Martha Washington " bush. The blooms are two-tone pink and the leaves are smooth and pointed. Let me know what you think.

I think this has been one of the most colorful spring seasons we've had in years. Maybe all the snow we got had something to do with it?

~ It's that time again ~

At the end of the season last year when I was emptying the flower containers on the patio, this is what I found...

I couldn't believe how large the tubulars from the sweet potato vine had grown! The large one was about 6 or 7 inches long. It was about an inch when I planted it.

Time to decide what I want to put in the patio containers this year. Zinnias and Geraniums for sure, they did well last year. I had some African Daisies that were different.. more sweet potato vine...green... and I saw some purple, almost black that I really liked.

It's that time again !!

This is a flower from Thailand. It is also a protected species and is not allowed to be exported. This will be the only way we will be able to view this flower .

~ Snapshots of summer bloomers-2007 ~

~ All good things must come to an end ~

This has been the most wonderful spring and summer season that I can ever remember...with plenty of warm, sunny days.
I've always waited until the Memorial Day holiday to plant my annuals, for fear of a late frost. This year the weather was so warm that I took a chance and planted the first weekend of May. By mid- June, the new flower bed was filling up with plenty of color!


Neighbors were stopping to comment on the containers on the front patio.

Then thanks to the lack of rain, watering became a daily ritual.

Now summer is officially over...and yet we've been blessed in October with an extension of warm weather. It sure doesn't feel like fall when the forecast is in the 90's!

But that's all going to change in a few days. Temperatures will return to normal, with highs in the 50's. They predict a frost around October 21st. The leaves will continue to change color and Suzy's bloomers will wither off and get ready to sleep through the winter...and then start the cycle... all over again.

If you like butterflies...

then ya gotta have a butterfly bush in your garden. I have counted as many as 15 butterflies on a bush at one time !!!

The Hummingbird Moth loves it too. It's amazing how much they look like a hummingbird!
